The tech industry layoff wave that began in 2022 has extended into 2025, with over 22,000 workers losing their jobs in the first several months of the year. According to independent layoffs tracker Layoffs.fyi, more than 150,000 jobs were cut across 549 companies in 2024 alone. The pace picked up dramatically in February 2025, with 16,234 employees laid off in that single month. As businesses increasingly embrace artificial intelligence and automation, the human impact of these reductions is becoming a central concern for the sector. December 2025

Several companies announced layoffs in the final month of the year. Zebra Technologies is winding down its autonomous mobile robot business, acquired through Fetch Robotics in 2021, with most employees expected to leave by year-end. Amazon cut 84 roles in Seattle and Bellevue across engineering, recruiting, software development, and product management, with layoffs scheduled for early 2026. Israeli sales intelligence startup Lusha laid off 8% of its workforce, about 24 employees, as part of a restructuring. AI chip startup Tenstorrent reduced its headcount by 7.5% to roughly 1,000, shifting its focus from enterprise customers to individual developers. Payoneer let go of about 60 employees globally, roughly 6% of its workforce. VSCO laid off 24 employees as it refocuses on tools for professional photographers. Mobileye cut 200 employees, about 4% of its global workforce, mostly in Israel. Inside Inbound Health, a hospital-at-home startup, shut down on December 1 after raising more than $50 million.

November 2025

Intel eliminated 59 jobs in the Bay Area as part of its broader workforce reduction. HP announced plans to cut 4,000 to 6,000 jobs worldwide by 2028 to streamline operations and leverage AI. Apple cut several sales positions handling business, education, and government accounts. Monarch Tractor warned it may lay off more than 100 workers or shut down entirely. Gaming company Playtika announced plans to lay off 700 to 800 employees, about 20% of its workforce. Pipe, a revenue-based small business lender once valued at $2 billion, laid off about 200 employees, roughly half its workforce. Synopsys plans to cut about 10% of its workforce, roughly 2,000 employees, tied to its acquisition of Ansys. Cybersecurity firm Deepwatch laid off 60 to 80 employees, citing AI as a factor. Axonius cut roughly 10% of its staff, about 100 people. MyBambu is closing its local operations and laying off all 141 employees. Hewlett-Packard removed 52 positions at its San Jose campus.

October 2025

Amazon announced a reduction of 14,000 corporate roles, part of a broader plan that could see up to 30,000 jobs eliminated. Subsequent layoffs affected 660 employees in New York City offices. Rivian cut 600 jobs, about 4% of its workforce, amid an EV market pullback. Meta laid off approximately 600 employees in AI infrastructure units, including the Fundamental AI Research team. Applied Materials plans to cut about 4% of its workforce, roughly 1,400 jobs, due to tighter U.S. semiconductor export controls. Handshake laid off around 100 employees, about 15% of its U.S. workforce. Smartsheet laid off over 120 employees following a leadership transition and its $8.4 billion acquisition. Google cut over 100 design roles in its cloud division and at least 50 more in Sunnyvale. Paycom laid off over 500 employees, citing AI and automation improvements.

September 2025

Just Eat eliminated about 450 jobs across multiple functions and countries, citing increased use of automation and AI. Fiverr plans to cut around 250 jobs, roughly 30% of its workforce, to become a leaner, AI-focused company. ZipRecruiter closed its Tel Aviv development center, cutting about 80 jobs. GupShup laid off at least 100 employees, months after cutting nearly 200. xAI laid off about a third of its data annotation team, roughly 500 jobs. Rivian laid off about 200 workers, about 1.5% of its staff. Oracle cut another 101 jobs in Seattle and 254 in San Francisco. Salesforce trimmed 262 jobs at its San Francisco headquarters.

August 2025

Cisco eliminated 221 positions across Milpitas and San Francisco. Restaurant365 laid off about 100 employees, roughly 9% of its workforce. Oracle cut 101 jobs in Santa Clara and 161 in Seattle. F5 cut 106 positions in Washington state. Peloton cut 6% of its workforce in its sixth layoff in over a year. Kaltura cut 10% of its workforce, about 70 employees. Yotpo laid off about 200 employees, roughly 34% of its global workforce, shutting down its email and SMS marketing operations. Windsurf laid off 30 employees and offered buyouts to the remaining 200. Wondery cut 100 jobs, and its CEO departed as Amazon reorganized audio operations.

July 2025

Atlassian cut 150 roles in customer service and support. Consensys cut about 7% of its workforce, or 47 employees. Social collaging platform Zeen shut down operations. Scale AI laid off around 200 employees, roughly 14% of its workforce, and severed ties with 500 contractors. Lenovo plans to cut more than 100 U.S. full-time jobs. Intel reportedly planned to lay off nearly 2,400 workers in Oregon. Indeed and Glassdoor plan to eliminate approximately 1,300 jobs combined. Eigen Lab laid off 29 employees, 25% of its workforce. Microsoft cut 9,000 employees, less than 4% of its global workforce. ByteDance laid off 65 employees in Bellevue, Washington.

June 2025

TomTom cut 300 jobs, 10% of its workforce. Rivian reduced headcount by approximately 140 employees, mostly in manufacturing. Bumble cut approximately 240 jobs, 30% of its workforce, to save $40 million annually. Klue laid off 85 employees, about 40% of its workforce. Google downsized its smart TV division by 25% of its 300-member team. Intel announced plans to lay off 15% to 20% of workers in its Intel Foundry division starting July. Playtika let go of around 90 employees. Airtime let go of around 25 employees. Microsoft laid off more employees, just weeks after cutting over 6,500 in May.

May 2025

Hims & Hers downsized by letting go of 68 employees, about 4% of its total staff. Amazon laid off around 100 employees from its devices and services division. Microsoft cut over 6,500 jobs, affecting 3% of its worldwide workforce. Chegg planned to let go of 248 employees, about 22% of its workforce. Match reduced its workforce by 13%. CrowdStrike laid off 5% of its global workforce, around 500 people. General Fusion cut roughly 25% of its workforce. Deep Instinct reduced headcount by 20 employees. Beam shut down operations and let go of approximately 200 employees.

April 2025

NetApp eliminated 700 jobs, affecting 6% of its workforce. Electronic Arts let go of approximately 300 to 400 employees. Expedia laid off around 3% of its employees. Cars24 reduced its workforce by about 200 employees. Meta let go of over 100 employees in its Reality Labs division.
